The Secret Behind Successful & Joyful Entrepreneurs

“The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion.

He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him, he is always doing both” from Zen Buddhist

When I was in middle school my parents told me. Just get to high school and your life will be all stable.

When I reached high school, parents were like, okay just get yourself through high school and your life will be all okay.

But when the same thing happened when I completed my graduation and then MBA, I was really devastated. I mean what the hell is this American Dream anyway?

To live a life that is set by others for you. But since we were limited in resources I opted to go with the flow. After the MBA program, I rolled into a 9-5 job like everyone else. I was not happy, but it was okay. My boos were okay, my parents were happy, my friends were happy.

But then one day it dawned on me that I was as dry as a mummy. From the outside, I was doing all the right stuff. Paying the bills, making my parents proud, and even making my boss financially strong.

On the other side of the boat, I talked to my school buddy who started his own online venture. Although it was small I found him to be happier than me.

My friend shared details of a highly professional website design agency that are giving ecommerce solutions to young Entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, he was kind enough to share some of his real-life Entrepreneurial tips that helped him lead a joyful happy life.

Firstly, to start something new you need to move out of your comfort zone. I was doing the job for around six years and was frustrated with the job.

My friend told me to think outside my office.

Great ideas often come when you’re relaxed and away from the crowd.

This doesn’t mean you leave your office to search out for ideas. It simply means you need to utilize your time off to get ideas.

For me, most of my ideas come when I am in the shower. I literally carry a notepad to my shower, because as soon as I finish the shower, ideas vanish.

Pick out your favorite spot, grab a Coffee, and think whatever comes to your mind. No matter how ridiculous your idea be, write it down for further reference.

Take notes whenever you can. Create some space in your brain to have new ideas.

Often, I use a technique to solve most of my problems. I think of a problem and ask my sub conscious mind to give me an answer. I forget about the task and do something else. After some time, the answer usually dawns upon me.

  • Plan to be Happy rather than being rich

I have read thousands of biographies and read millions of blogs. To conclude them all, success is not the goal, it is a process. But happiness is a goal.

But before you conclude anything let me elaborate it further.

Entrepreneurship is hard work, long hours, burning the midnight oil. And doing all of that will make you happy. Happiness, then, is a choice.

The common misconception of being an Entrepreneur is that a closing a big client, buying a sports car, or even buying your own jet will give you happiness.

Well, sorry to disappoint you guys. But there is no reality in doing so. Happiness comes from doing the small things well.

Like making a customer happy, spending time with your family after an ultra-productive day, or enjoying a cup of Coffee.

These might seem small insignificant things, but once you learn to enjoy the little things in life, you will have the attitude to enjoy the big things in life too.

It is not always about more. To earn more, to spend more, or to get more done, sometimes, the real happiness comes from being grateful for whatever you have.

  • Give more to get more

As an Entrepreneur, you need to realize this thing early in life that to get something you need to give away more of it.

Most of the people think that only way to get something is to save it. Which is totally wrong.

If you want more money, donate more. If you want more understanding, understand more people. If you want to have more peace of mind, ensure that your employees get it too.

For customers, if you want loyal customers to make sure you show loyalty towards your customers. Appreciate them for the constructive feedback and show them that you have improved. Customers will not only love your attitude, they will become your raving fans.

  • Fail Faster, Succeed Sooner

IDEO, a consultancy, has coined the slogan “Fail often in order to succeed sooner”. This statement holds true for every Entrepreneur.

It doesn’t matter that you’re just starting out or already in a middle of your success journey. To grow fast, you need to fail fast.

The lens with which you see the failure. From now onwards try to see failure as your opportunity to grow. And how will you succeed? By getting more opportunities, and how will you do that? Yes, by failing more and more and learning something from every failure.

  • Bury the EGO

“Enlightenment is ego’s ultimate disappointment.” ~Chögyam Trungpa

As an Entrepreneur, you’re the sole front line of your company. To maintain a healthy reputation, you need to bury that EGO of yours. You cannot win the big battlers if you consume so much of your energy in small fights.

Everyone has some strong points. For me, it is management. For marketing, I turn to my marketing team. For finance, I look up to my finance. For advice, I look up to fellow Entrepreneurs.
