Google’s Big Pixel 2 Event is All Set to Begin: Here’s What You Can Expect

It’s that time of the year when tech agencies launch their latest products and innovations hoping to sell on the holiday season buying extravaganza. And the search giant is no different. On October 4th, Google is hosting an event in San Francisco to trot out its latest phones, smart speakers and laptops.

On October 4th, 2016, Google launched Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones that were officially branded as Google phones and soon they became the most-preferred Android phones. Now’s there is another event right around the corner in which Google will unveil a new generation of Pixel devices.

Google is mum on the details about the new gadgets and phones, but the digital industry already knows a fair amount about what is going to be revealed in Google event, including brand new Pixel smartphones, some major upgrades, and new devices that will expand Google’s wide hardware portfolio significantly.

Pixel 2 Phones

Let’s Welcome New Pixel 2 phones!

Google is expected to launch next-gen Pixel phones, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL that are made in partnership with HTC and LG, respectively. Pixel phones will run the latest Android Oreo OS and are greatly speculated to have no headphone jack.

Pixel 2 phones will be water resistant, have better camera prowess and have squeeze feature similar to HTC U11 that allows you to launch apps or services by squeezing the sides of the phones.

Both Pixel phones, 5-inch Pixel and 5.5-inch Pixel XL, are expected to have 4GB RAM, 821 processor, 12-megapixel camera, fingerprint sensor and improved battery life. The Pixel phone will most likely have a 1080p display and Pixel XL have a quad HD screen.

The Pixel 2 will compete with Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, LG V30 and OnePlus 5.

New Google Home

Currently, Google is selling a single smart home assistant, Google Home. It is expected that Google is going to reveal the competitor of Amazon’s Echo, Alexa and other devices by introducing smaller and affordable Google Home.  

It was announced at Google I/O event last summer that the voice-based Bluetooth smart speaker assistant which is expected to cost $129 will launch in 2017. So, chances are high that the company will launch it on October 4th event or sometime before the holiday season.

Google Home Mini will be a much smaller version with smaller speakers. It will cost $49 – not a big deal! You can have Google Assistant into each room without having to buy Google Home speaker. The speaker comes in three colors, chalk, charcoal, and coral, has swappable fabric covers similar to original Google Home.

Google Home Max will be the premium version in terms of design and functionality with stereo speakers.

Daydream VR Headset

Google is all set to launch its new Daydream VR headset with more improvements, but with slightly higher price, around $20 more expensive that the existing one. Though we don’t know exactly what will be the major upgrades, perhaps the company will launch some sort of new optics that improves the user experience and make it more immersive. The current Daydream VR is comfortable enough, works perfectly and supports a number of existing Android smartphones.

Chromecast Ultra

There is also a chance that Google will announce the incremental update in in-home technology and introduce a more robust version of Chromecast called Chromecast Ultra. This new version will stream 4k and UHD content and will cost $69. It will be an affordable addition to Chromecast lines that stream 1080p video.

Pixel Chromebook

Another amazing product that we will be going to see in the event is the return of Google’s high-end Pixel Chromebook line. The return of Pixel-branded Chromebook will kickstart the ecosystem, increase ideas, and cater to the mainstream market. So, we all are much excited to see how this new addition will going to make a revolution. It will be the third Chromebook released by Google that might be a more robust solution.  

The Pixelbook which would serve as a follow-up to Chromebook Pixel, will be a laptop with 360-degree hinge that allows users to convert into a tablet. It will come in a few storage options, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. The laptop will run Google Chrome OS, compatible Android apps and web-based apps.

ARKit

Google may announce some more advancements in its ARCore platform for AR. This kit will compete with Apple’s ARKit and the replacement for Google’s Tango AR project. ARCore will allow developers to use their existing phones with single cameras to develop AR games. No need to work with third-party phones to build AR-centric phones with different rear-cameras.

The event will start on Wednesday, 4th October 2017 at 9 a.m. PT; 12 noon ET; 5 p.m. You can watch it through official YouTube page.

Google has a lot of things to offer in this annual event and if Google does release all the devices and gears on October 4th, I bet, it’s going to be one of the largest hardware event ever for the search giant which is known for searching and indexing the internet.
